SALVATION ARMY DONATIONS DOWN
34% Decrease in Christmas Donations Over 2007

Orange County, CA -- The Salvation Army’s Christmas donations in Orange County are down 34% over last year. This year the overall, donations are down 6.6%.

This is due partly to the economy. Because of the economy, The Salvation Army has seen a 40% increase of people needing assistance. The Army provides food and clothing vouchers, rental and utility assistance for the most needy in Orange County.

Orange County Coordinator Major Lee Lescano comments, “As The Salvation Army receives more and more requests for help from struggling families, we must look to the public to come along side of us to insure we can provide the needed assistance. Particularly at Christmas time, our goal is to bring hope and help to families and individuals.”

Not only is The Salvation Army in need of monetary donations, it needs food and toys for its Christmas Distribution Warehouse program. The Army calculates that toy donations are down by 2000 over last year. Food is another essential for the Christmas program and food pantries are getting depleted. This year The Army will assist over 2000 needy families in Orange County.
